A view on IT Support Companies and how they work.
If you are an Office Manager for a city based company then the chances are that at some point in your career, you would have been involved with recruiting a computer support company in some shape or form, whether it be for an IT Manager or outsourced.
Occasionaly IT Support companies can get a lot of stick and this has given them a damaged reputation, but like everything in life you cannot tar it all with the same brush. There are actually some exceptional IT Support companies out there that provide a very high level of service, it is just a matter of finding one, and recently this has become an art form for Office managers like you an I.
If you have been asked to find a good outsourcing company then there are some important things to remember. Firstly, you will be expected to get the best IT company out there bar none for absolute peanuts (the life of an office manager a hard one) so you need to make the right decision at the first time of asking.
So how do I pick the best IT company? Well there are probably a lot of different opinions on this to be honest but here is mine!!!
First of all, remember that no matter how busy you are, be sure that you ask potential parties through the door and meet at least one of the techies. You cannot beat getting a feel for a potential company by meeting the people that you will actually be dealing with, so insist that the meeting isn't just with a salesman, get a techie in on the act as well.
Screen them as much as possible, ask them to bring a copy of the IT contract that you are expected to sign so you can go through it with a fine tooth comb. Don't be pressured into making a decision because there are lots of other it companies out there. One thing is for certain, you will never be short of choice when it comes to
Choosing a good IT Support Company. companies.
Most if not all Computer companies will offer onsite and remote IT Support. Don't worry about remote support because most problems can be fixed over the phone or online and it saves waiting for an onsite visit. However, insist on a regular site visit and make sure this is included in the contract at no extra charge. Be on the front foot and make a list of IT related issues that need addressing throughout the week, this cn be given to the engineer when he arrives.
Also, there is something about having an engineer onsite that is reassuring and it reminds you what you are paying for.
Finally, do not put up with a poor service. There are many of other companies out there that will quite happily take the place of the last company so don't be afraid to kick up a fuss if you are unhappy, just don't make the mistake of signing up for the long term, otherwise the relationship could get tricky...
